Diary Entry 3

Okay, I’m apparently going nuts, or senile. Lack of sleep, maybe? I don’t know anymore, but I found that damned elf this morning. Apparently Sheila had left it on the mantle, but in my scatterbrain state, I just kept overlooking it.

Okay, sure, yeah, that’s simple. But I swear to God that either it’s a new one, or somehow I was completely wrong in thinking that it’s eyes were always looking to its right. Now they’re facing to its left. Or they always were. Either way, I put the bloody thing in the coat closet, and Sheila can put it back out when she and the kids get back. I’m done.

I’ve got more than enough stress on my plate without that creepy piece of shit adding to it.

Take last night, for example: I got maybe, what, two hours of sleep last night? Three? I think our foundation is still settling, or maybe it’s the furnace going on the blink. It’s a kind of quick series of tapping noises, you know? It vibrates the floorboards, so I guess it’s coming from the basement. Foundation or furnace, yeah? Dull, but loud enough to wake me up.

Damn it all, I don’t want to have to spring for someone to come out and look at it. Holidays drain the bank account enough as it is. I’m going to save this file entry, grab some coffee, and check it out myself first just to be sure. Hoping it’s nothing.

God I’m tired.
