Never Forget is the binding phrase, but we have opted to be selective with what we remember.
I, for one, choose to never forget the heroism, the perseverance, and the coming together of we disparate people, if only for a short moment.
However, I choose to forget the co-opting of this tragedy that has run rampant ever since. I choose to forget the insistence that it was the act of an entire religion. I choose to forget the use of this dark day as a blank check for every malign action or prejudice that has come after.
My history. My memory. I choose. And I invite you to do the same; to remember the triumph and love and honor that came out of what was, in its way, the end of a world.
